Why to Work in Big City Education – Andrew Epstein

Erik: Why do you enjoy working in big city
education? Andrew: There are a lot of challenges, there’s
a lot of excitement, New York City, Harlem in particular is a hot bed of education reform,
people all around the country are looking at what we’re doing in New York with charter
schools with creating alternatives to public school, traditional school system, I mentioned
Harlem in particular there are many, many charter schools, I think twenty five of the
districts students now are going to public charter schools, which is a really exciting
laboratory for change and seeing if change is going to work, so being apart of that is
great. It’s like Teach for America all over again, part of a national movement where we’re
trying to make opportunities for education better.
