  1. He was an inspiration to all. Love the Canadian connections in this. From Northern Dancer to all his descendants.

  2. The greatest trainer that ever drew breath .I have watched racing since the start of the 60s and saw all the greats including Noel Murless who was a genius who the greatest jockey who ever lived Lester Piggott rode for and learned his trade from. But even he was not as great as Vincent O'Brien.Who btw piggott left Murless for when he realised Obrian was going to be even greater than Murless.Piggott was proved right as always. No trainer or Jockey before or since could live with those two and anyone over 60 who knows anything about racing will tell you that.

  3. I learned so much about the sport in this video – thank you for making it – and so thankful for the man! I really appreciate how he knew the animal inside and out:

as an athlete, pedigree, potential and conformation,
how they think – their presence – he studied their character – their confidence, how they presented themselves.

His wife's story of him staying late to see how his horses settled into their stalls and had respect and care for their environment to bring out their best. He knew them completely and respected them completely. He seemed to have a deep insight into their world.

Thank you, Vincent O'Brien, for your life, your legend and for demonstrating the highest qualities of the sport of kings.

  8. Listen to the gold coming from Phonsie here. Eyes need to be prominent, ears need to be big, distance between the ears great. As easy as that.

  9. And for all Charlie Haughey's critics, it was he who made breeding tax free. He gets no credit from anyone for it.

  10. Aidan was handed Ballydoyle and then amazing stallions by Magnier. Great horses aren't hard to train, you just have to leave them alone. Vincent had to spot each horse in the rough. H emined Northern Dancer, Sadler's Wells' sire … who gave us Galileo. Vincent made Aidan.

  11. Disgusting, Chuck O'B… 39:40 NORTHERN DANCER was a Breeding Star after his first crop, at racing age… Ignorant fellow!!!
How dare you speak this way… Quote "Northern Dancer wasn't great in America" & "Wouldn't of been in ANY pedigrees"???
Northern Dancer's Ontario Billionaire owner made THEE 'Dancer's Breeding Farm in Maryland USA in '69. Set up for Northern Dancer's Breeding, so he could be closer to MORE high quality Mares, yet close to Canada. Long before the 2nd crop Nijinsky's 1970, 3 year old racing season…
Windfield's Maryland kept "Open for business" until Northern Dancer was Pensioned from stud in 1987. A career at stud that lasted for 22 years, the last 18 of those in Maryland. ….Windfields Maryland was closed, shut down completely When Northern Dancer died in 1990!!!

  12. I remember this fantastic team together Vincent Lester What a combination nothing but the best for Vincent with the best
Jockey in the world riding for the master brilliant programme cheers

  13. Attention to detail, focused observation. Great horsemen have this, fellas such as Mr. O'Brien, Ben White in harness racing, and Tom Smith, Seabiscuit's trainer.

(7 stables). No monied owner to fund us. I "can choose them", Geoff. can Train them. No money.

  15. Too young to remember any of these races but what he achieved in both National Hunt and Flat was absolutely incredible.Doubt we'll ever see any trainer come close to his achievements ever again

  16. I met him once years ago when I was working in Mayfair, central London. He must have been staying in local hotel and killing a bit of time when he walked into the showroom. As a racing fan I recognised him immediately and I was thrilled to meet him. He was friendly and completely charming. I met Lester too, in the same way another time. Awesome moments!
