US Department of Education Reduces UM Clery Fine


the Department of Education significantly reduced fines living against the University of Montana today to pay for Clary Act violations um was initially fined nearly a million dollars for failing to comply with reporting crime requirements the Department of Education said after further review that Baartman reduced the fine to $395,000 um was initially fined for crime statistics emissions in the institution’s annual security report for the years 2012 through 2015 you know spokeswoman parlous short a Polish short noted the university has made important and significant steps to address Clary Act compliance she said one of the core teams meets every two weeks to review the campus police crime log and all reported incidents on campus short said this is in addition to the UM police daily review of the campus crime log um will pay the fine with monthly payments through January of 2024
