Secretary Betsy DeVos – Presidential Cybersecurity Education Award Announcement

Hi, I’m Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. We’re fortunate to live in an age where information
is at out fingertips and the internet connects us instantly to friends and family across
the world. This connectedness opens up endless ways for
us to communicate, to learn, and to grow. These new opportunities bring new avenues
of attack, new threats. Countering them requires cybersecurity professionals
capable of meeting the challenges head on. This isn’t a responsibility that’s confined
to our men and women in uniform, we all have a role to play in keeping America’s vital
information systems and each other safe. That’s why we’ve partnered with the National
Security Council and the National Science Foundation to establish the Presidential Cybersecurity
Education Award. It will be awarded annually to two teachers
who go above and beyond in raising cyber awareness and teaching their students strong cyber security
skills. It’s one of the fastest growing fields in
the world. Here in the US, there are nearly half a million
cyber security jobs just waiting to be filled. This new award will recognize great teachers
who are helping prepare students to fill them and to help keep our nation safe.
