Parents could soon see more choices for their kids’ education


YOU MAY SOON HAVE MORE CHOICES FOR YOUR KIDS OUTSIDE OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.STATE LAWMAKERS ARE REVIEWING PLANS FOR A “CAFETERIA STYLE” PROGRAM THAT WOULD ALLOW PARENTS TO PICK OUT A CUSTOMIZED EDUCATION PLAN.IT’S CALLED THE “EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNT” AND PARENTS WOULD USE PART OF THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL PROPERTY TAXES TO HELP PAY FOR TUITION AT PRIVATE OR CHARTER SCHOOLS. CRITICS ARGUE THIS PROPOSAL WOULD TAKE TAX MONEY FROM LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS.THESE FOLKS COME TO ASK FOR EVEN MORE TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO GO AWAY TO PRIVATELY OPERATED SCHOOLS AND WE SIMPLY CAN’T AFFORD TO FUND TWO SEPARATE SCHOOL SYSTEMS ONE PUBLIC, ONE PRIVATE.OBVIOUSLY IF THAT STUDENT IS NOT IN THAT PARTICULAR SCHOOL, THEN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SHOULDN’T HAVE THAT MONEY.SUPPORTERS OF THE SCHOOL CHOICE INITIATIVE SAY NEARLY ONE MILLION TEXAS KIDS ATTEND FAILING SCHOOLS STATEWIDE.RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE MORE THAN 120-THOUSAND CHILDREN ON WAITING LIST TO
