  4. The so called old Indian Education before Macaulay changed it is Sanskrit education for Hindus and Arabic education for Muslims. Sanskrit and Arabic education were funded with public money. Sanskrit education was actually only reciting mantras, hymns and performing yagnas and poojas. That too was restricted to a small community. Same was with Arabic education also, it was only religious education.
    These education had no values at that time. There were no kings and Sultans under the areas in British control, to support those educated in Sanskrit and Arabic. Those educated with stipend money for 12 years pleaded the then government to support them financially for learning Sanskrit and Arabic, because the education had no value.
    Macaulay wanted to put an end to the waste in providing Sanskrit and Arabic education.
    The time also coincided with the Industrial revolution. There was a demand for English education. People were willing to pay for English education, whereas government had to spend for Sanskrit and Arabic education. Macaulay is right in replacing Sanskrit and Arabic education with English education.

    He should have made varnashrama dharma reserved for brahmin only andother education reserved for strictly for nonbrahmin.  That way these nomadic barbarian Brahmins might have lived by reciting their ancestors  invaders language sanskrit and lived  according to Brahmana dharma unjaviruthi (pegging).

    Well,  Thanthai Periyar's  Social justice and reforms are now form part of United Nations Resolutions and UN implemented all these policies of EVR. Also all Developed western Countries have EVR social justice and reforms viz. USA, UK, Europeans, Australia, Russia and others.

    Manusmriti, a barbaric and inhumane text, was authored by Brahmins and fabricated by Brahmins to establish their supremacies over all other hindus. Neither Christians nor Islam ever ill treated other Hindus.  Why Brahmins object to priestshood for all hindus? Completely racist Brahmins and they even abuse Hindu religion. Hindusim must be saved from Brahminism they are the enemies of Hinduism not the islam or Christianity.

    EVR Periyar was a Hindu and follower of Gandhiji until 1925. Periyar was against the "varnasharam (caste based)” practice and was not convinced with the responses to this evil practice from Gandhiji or the Congress party. That and other social evils of the society made Periyar to start “Self-Respect Movement (SRM)”. SRM movement is dedicated to achieve a society where all are equal human (Casteless) and their rights (human rights) must be protected and people must have self-respect in the context of a caste-based society that considered them to be a lower end of the hierarchy. Periyar relentlessly fought for human rights, equality without discrimination based on caste, religion or gender, for widow marriage, against superstitions, for temple entry for untouchables, anti-hindi impositions, abolition of devadsi system (of abuse of erudite bharanatyan and music and art families of Tamil Nadu) and many more social reforms. Globally, these principles are enshrined under the UN resolutions and all advanced and modern nations are fully committed to these dogmas of SRM. Is SRM anti-brahmin? Then let it be!

Delivered good lecture on it. but one thing at that time may be i have read by books, only Brahmans were eligible to take education rest are not specially shudra. Not any evidence proved it they had not opportunity to get it.
