Helping people achieve education and workplace success

[calm music] ♪ ♪ – Success. Take a moment to think about
what success looks like. Now, ask a few of your friends, family members, or co-workers how they picture success. Chances are, the way people envision success is as unique as
their fingerprints. Success is not only
unique to each person, but the meaning of success
can change over time. So, how can we help people find their own definitions
of success? ♪ ♪ I am Marten Roorda. I am the CEO of ACT. Well, ACT’s mission– to help people
to achieve success both in college and career is very important. It’s really what I care about, what I’m working on, and what’s the challenge
of my career. ACT is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people achieve education and workplace success. We are trusted as
a national leader in college and career
readiness, providing high-quality
assessments grounded in decades
of research. And while ACT initially focused on assessing college readiness with the ACT test, we know learning is
a lifelong journey. ACT offers individuals
a uniquely integrated set of solutions designed to provide personalized insights throughout their lifetimes. Each year, we serve
millions of people across all 50 states and more than 130 countries. – I think that ACT is
a multi-faceted organization doing work on all kinds
of educational levels regarding measurement,
regarding diversity… – We’ve had historical
racial inequities for hundreds of years. We are tracking that better and better. They’re helping us
solve problems that matter to us locally, and they have national reach so we can have
big systems impact. – It’s been the partnerships, and ACT has provided kind of the plate to have people sit down
and talk about equity on such a grander scale. We can be innovate and creative and push the conversation
forward. – One of the most positive
experiences I’ve had was my first day as an intern being pulled directly
into a meeting and having an actual
impact on the meeting. Blind disabilities– that’s the work
that I have done, and it’s important to me because I’ve had so many
problems with this in my past that I’d rather make it easier
on those in the future. – I didn’t have the best
childhood, and so in order for me
to get away, I went to school, and I did
the best that I can do, because that was the only way that I could get out. ACT has taught me a lot. It taught me that you don’t
have to have all the answers by yourself. – ACT has been a tremendous
partner with United Way, certainly working on education, but then also in that
income stability piece of really how do we help
the workforce have a better earning power? – ACT is so much more
than just a test– an innovator in education and an expert in so many areas. The partnerships and outreach that it has bring value
to any discussion. – We need innovation. We need educational technology at the hands of the teachers. We are doing
groundbreaking work, and we can come up with
solutions that can really make a difference, both for students
and for workers. At ACT, we believe everyone
deserves to go where their dreams lead them. And we’re here to help them
on their journeys. Together, we can help people of every country, creed, and socioeconomic background achieve education
and workplace success. ♪ ♪
