EMT students can now get paid while furthering their education


THE STAGE AT GRADUATION, HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE HE IS HELPING STUDENTS GET PAID WHILE FURTHERING THEIR EDUCATION THROUGH THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PROGRAM.>>REPORTER: PATRICK PHOENIX PROVES IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION. PATRICK IS AN EMT WORKING AS A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER MAKING $17 AN HOUR ALL BECAUSE HE COMPLETED ONE SEMESTER OF EMT TRAINING. >>ONCE I WENT THROUGH THE PROGRAM I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. I WANTED TO BECOME A PARAMEDIC.>>REPORTER: YOU CAN CHOOSE HOW FAR AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WANT TO MAKE. THE EMT BASIC PROGRAM WILL TAKE A STUDENT ONE SEMESTER TO COMPLETE AND THEN THEY CAN COMPLETE THE FULL PROGRAM AFTER THAT AND IT WILL TAKE ABOUT THREE SEMESTERS. >>THEY WILL MAKE BETWEEN 50 AND $60,000 A YEAR. YOU GET THIS TRAINING IN AS LITTLE AS TWO YEARS. >>THE SERVICES ARE HUNGRY FOR THEM.
