Definitions in the Field: Steppe

– The steppe is the kind
of landscape and the biome where there are no
trees, only small bushes, and they are all adapted to
live in a very dry environment. I am Pablo Garcia Borboroglu, and I am a penguin researcher
and conservationist. So right now, we are in
the middle of Patagonia. It doesn’t rain a lot
here, so all these bushes, they have these small leaves
with a lot of water inside. So, if we take a look
at one of these leaves, they look very dry from the outside, but then when you cut it in the middle and you press it, there’s a lot of water coming from the inside. So that is the main feature
of the vegetation in a steppe, so now you know.
