Class action settlement reached for special education students against the department of education


FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO SETTLE A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT. THE D-O-E HAS AGREED TO PAY 8 MILLION DOLLARS AFTER THE LAWSUIT CLAIMED IT VIOLATED FEDERAL LAW BY BARRING SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS OVER THE AGE OF 20 TO ENROLL IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. UNDER THE DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT, THESE STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO STAY IN SCHOOL UNTIL THEY EARN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, OR REACH 22 YEARS OLD. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
