City, University of London: Marking 125 years of research and education in London

How old would you say I am? I was born in the heart of a community I’ve been a part of ever since My parents were driven by a desire to educate no matter the gender, class, creed or colour I’m a proud Londoner through and through I’ve always had a passion for engineering In fact I’ve played a big part in transforming the London skyline I helped British aviation take off And produced some of the highest flyers in business I remember when fifty thousand women protested in Hyde Park for the right to vote Forty four years later, Britain’s first female Prime Minister came to me to advance her legal knowledge I played my part in the fight for freedom I watched many young people leave and not return And when the Blitz rained down on London, I made it through but only just I remember the day the NHS was born And I’ve nurtured many of their staff ever since I’ve witnessed some of the world’s most newsworthy events I helped write the headlines too Through my research and education I continue to shape the people who shape the world Age is more than just a number from 1894 to today and tomorrow I am City
