Beenleigh Special School – I’ve got more to say: differentiation is the key to success


At Beenleigh Special School, staff believe
that communication for every learner is a right not a choice. The school ensures every student can communicate to show their skills, knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum key learning
areas. To achieve this, the school has embedded differentiation strategies by using augmentative and alternative communication tools—or AAC for short. Five years into this project, Beenleigh Special School is well-known for using AAC as a differentiation tool. This successful strategy is boosting staff
capability, student academic achievement and the personal and social capability of every
learner.
