Current challenges, I think are mainly two:
one challenge is that some students have difficulties in coping with thinking theoretically. They
have difficulties in going abstract in their thinking and they leave, sort of, the well-known world behind and that's a huge challenge. It is valid for some students, but not for all students. So that you could call, an intellectual challenge. Then there is a more, maybe, structural challenge,
in the sense that IR theory in really many departments is a kind of small side-show and
given that there is an abundance of IR theories to teach and introduce to students and very
limited time, that's really a challenge to sometimes select theories but otherwise to
give a broad overview of the field in a very short time. That's a huge challenge for all
who teach IR theory.
