The 1971 Ford Mustang The 1971 Mustang grew wider and longer than previous years. The muscular car is two inches longer and nearly two and a half inches wider than the previous year. Body styles offered were, Hardtop, Sports roof, Convertible, Grand, Mach 1, and the Boss 351 Production totaled 151,484 total, with only 1,806 Boss 351s created. The 1971 Boss 351 seen here, replaced both the 302 and 429 Bosses from the previous years. This Boss gets its name from the 351 cubic inch v8 Engine, that was rated at 330 horsepower. This propelled the car to a 0 – 60 time of 5.8 seconds. Overall, the 351 had much better low end response, and its equal weight distribution made for better handling and braking.
